Robert H. Hodgkin (1877-1951) was an English historian who taught at Queen's College, Oxford. He is best known for this two volume History of Anglo-Saxon England which first appeared in 1935 and was subsequently revised and expanded twice to reflect new archeological evidence and scholarship. Although dated now, Hodgkin was a pioneer who shaped the field of Anglo-Saxon study for three generations and his work is still valuable today! These two hardbacks are both from the 3rd revised edition of 1952 and are in good condition. Volume 1 is from a private collection. The binding is tight and pages clean and unmarked, but the dust jacket is worn and has numerous tears. Volume 2 is an Ex-Library copy that has library binding and the stamps and markings typical of library media. It also has tight binding and clean unmarked pages.
